As a university institution, Esade's mission is:

• To train individuals to the highest level of professional competence. The training imparted is of an international nature and sets out to make students fully aware of their responsibilities as both individuals and as professionals. That is why Esade's approach to teaching is a holistic one and is underpinned by a broad cultural base. The aim is to serve both individuals and society as a whole.   

• To create and disseminate knowledge based upon a critical study of what is already known and upon top-flight research of national and international relevance.  

• To thoroughly debate issues and make proposals from an independent standpoint with a view to fostering a fairer society. 

I am therefore delighted to present the e-bulletin published by Esade's Center for Public Governance. This newsletter will create a forum for ideas, dissemination, training, and debate with regard to public management, thus realising Esade's mission in this sphere. It should be borne in mind that public management has a key role to play in contemporary society -a fact recognised by Esade 30 years ago when it first became involved in this field.
