The ESADE Alumni Public Management Club held another event to learn first-hand about how public sector works and the services it provides.

On this occasion we visited two control centres of Renfe Operadora, the public company in the Fomento Group, located in the Atocha train station in Madrid. These centres are responsible for monitoring railway traffic in real time, and are fitted with the very latest developments in train control technology and railway management.

  • Operations Management Centre: traffic control and management of the high-speed and long-distance trains operating across the peninsula.
  • Cercanías Management Centre: supervision and control of all of Madrid’s suburban trains.

Both centres coordinate with Adif traffic managers and announce any incidents concerning trains or stations in order to take the necessary measures to remedy any impact on rail users.
